My name is Lisa Verro and I am a solicitor mainly specialising in compensation claims against public authorities. I qualified in 2000 and next year, I will have been practicing in this area of law for 20 years.
My caseload encompasses public and private law challenges to the police and/or other statutory bodies. I have worked on a number of multifaceted complaints and actions against the police involving serious racially aggravated assaults, wrongful arrest, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, negligence, trespass, judicial review applications and claims under the Human Rights Act. I have acted for clients pursuing claims for race and disability discrimination. Most of my cases are directed against the police, the Ministry of Justice (responsible for the Prison Service), and other detaining authorities (Serco, G4S and Sodexho).
I also act for survivors of abuse bringing claims against Social Services, family members, care homes, institutions, churches and schools amongst others. I help survivors of abuse on their way to hopefully achieving some sense of closure through the civil justice system by claiming compensation for the physical or sexual abuse they have suffered in their past. I have acted on a number of multi party actions including the St Williams Children’s Home group litigation and for survivors bringing claims arising from abuse suffered at Medomsley Detention Centre.
I can assist with related criminal injuries compensation applications if you have been the victim of a crime of violence. In addition, I have experience of acting on personal injury claims, employment law and general civil litigation issues.
Since qualification, I have assisted clients ranging from the family of a 16 year old girl tragically killed by a speeding police car, the survivor of horrific child abuse in a test case leading to the North Wales Children’s Home litigation, the widow of a fatal shooting by the police, the man who had his car windscreen smashed by a police officer with a knife and numerous other high profile and significant cases. However, I find it equally satisfying to act for clients in receipt of legal aid in straightforward wrongful arrest or police assault cases where the client is merely seeking justice whether it be a simple apology, an explanation or compensation.
I am currently North Convenor for the Police Action Lawyers Group. I have extensive experience of training and supervising other solicitors in my areas of law (particularly in civil actions against the police, abuse and civil litigation).
I accept cases nationwide from clients throughout England & Wales. I am passionate about helping those who have suffered police misconduct. Some of my clients have lots of previous convictions and others have never had any previous history with the police – this does not matter to me. I am only concerned about helping those who have suffered injustice at the hands of the police achieve some form of redress, whether this be compensation, disciplinary action or an apology or explanation. Most of my cases are funded through legal aid.
I offer a personal dedicated service based on my significant specialist experience in this area of law. This means that your case will not get lost in the filing cabinet. Your letters will be replied to. Your calls returned.
I have been an approved Supervisor for the Legal Aid Agency in Actions against the Police continuously since 2004. In my view, legal aid is usually the best funding option for your case. Unlike other firms who will offer to act only on a conditional fee agreement with a third of your damages being deducted if you win, I will strive to ensure that you receive 100% of your damages through legal aid funding providing you are financially eligible and the matter is within scope.
I never act for the police. I only act for the person who has suffered the injustice.
Do not hesitate to get in touch with me now to have a free no obligation discussion of your case.
